 Plumas Arts has a convergence of world-class events coming to the Town Hall Theatre. It begins with the screening of the documentary RBG on Wednesday, October 31 at 7pm. RBG is a certain contender for best documentary film. It is the story of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who at the age of 84, has developed a breathtaking legal legacy while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon. The unique personal journey of this diminutive, quiet warrior's rise to the nation's highest court has been largely unknown, even to some of her biggest fans - until now.  A few days later Plumas Arts will host a lively world music concert duo with Scottish cultural ambassador and fiddle master Alasdair Fraser and Julliard trained California cellist Natalie Haas on Friday, November 2. The concert begins at 7pm with doors opening at 6:30pm. The musical partnership between consummate performer Alasdair Fraser, "the Michael Jordan of Scottish fiddling", and brilliant Californian cellist Natalie Haas spans the full spectrum between intimate chamber music and ecstatic dance energy. Over the last 18 years of creating a buzz at festivals and concert halls across the world, they have truly set the standard for fiddle and cello in traditional music. They continue to thrill audiences internationally with their virtuosic playing, their near-telepathic understanding and the joyful spontaneity and sheer physical presence of their music. Saturday to Monday, November 3-5, BlackKklansman will screen at 7pm each night with a 4pm Sunday Matinee. This critically praised, awards season contender is produced by visionary filmmaker Spike Lee, filled with 1970s fashion and music, based on the incredible true story of an American hero. Ron Stallworth is the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department. Determined to make a name for himself, he sets out on a dangerous mission: infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan.
The theatre will host the debut screening of Visions of the Lost Sierra on November 7. The film celebrates the story of the Feather River through interviews with local historians, ecologists, conservationists and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. It emphasizes the importance of the Feather River while showcasing its unique history and beauty, explores how people need free-flowing rivers and wilderness for solitude and inspiration, showcasing the dreams of local people, and highlighting how we are connected to one another by the Middle Fork of the Feather River. At the Plumas Arts Gallery opening for the work created by the 2018 Artist in the Lookout will not occur on the first Friday to accommodate the November 2 Fraser & Haas concert and a date conflict with one of the artists. The opening for the 2018 Artists in the Lookout: Megan Gnekow, Lenora Herndon and Wendy Wayman will be on Friday, November 9 from 5-7pm.
