Racial Equity Statement
Plumas Arts is committed to racial equity through our work environment and through our programming.
We recognize that inequities and disparities are prevalent in our County. Inequities exist in our country, state, and county in terms of poverty, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, and race/ethnicity. “By prioritizing attention to racial equity, we acknowledge that all will benefit because racial injustice is the most pervasive and entrenched form of injustice permeating the institutions and systems that everyone must access.” (California Arts Council)
We believe that bringing together differing backgrounds and life experiences will enhance our ability to increase opportunities for all arts and artists. In our commitment to creating a universal sense of belonging, we welcome the opportunity to share and amplify the stories and art of diverse perspectives.
We pledge to prioritize diversity, equity, empathy, and respect. We believe these are essential to a just and thriving organization, community, and society.
As organizational stewards, we commit our efforts, time, and resources to:
• View organizational practices through a racial equity lens.
• Address, serve, engage, and uplift communities of color in our region.
• Foster partnerships that amplify community voices, creating an environment of trust and belonging.
• Provide support services to existing and emerging Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) arts entities.
• Strive to understand and value new and differing ideas, perspectives, and experiences.
• Understanding the dynamic nature of these processes and the necessity for ongoing review.
