“We Journey by faith even though we know not where we shall land. God provides the way”
In September of 2016, Randy was flown to Enloe hospital where he was to begin a 19 day stay in the ICU. He had come down withh pneumonia, strep A and sepsis. Each was life threatening, causing multiple organ failure, doctors preparing the family for him not to recover.
The power of prayer pulled him through, even experiencing a “dream” where Buel, his father-in-law, who died 10 years earlier, encouraged him to stay with his family. God performed miracles in that hospital room and doctors and nurses have even admitted that there is power in prayer.
This last year has brought us joy at Randy still being with us, grateful hearts to our Lord as well as frustrating days of pain and “scrambled thoughts”. Randy had 3 other hospital stays and was once again flown to Enloe. His gallbladder did not survive the sepsis, so surgery was also a part of his medical emergencies.
We, as a family, are learning alot about “life after sepsis”. Recovery is and will continue to be a daily struggle, creating for us all a “new normal. One of the excersises that Randy was doing was playing Slitaire, to sharpen his mind and bring dexterity back into his hands. The daily ups and downs of recovery have been challenging to Randy as well as the entire family. As stated above, “a new normal” of nothing being normal began to take shape.
That brings us to around the middle of June ‘17, when Randy was doodling on paper, having become tired of the card game, and scenery began to take shape. Of course it was trees (he’s a logger!), mountains and rocks/boulders. He began using ink on scrap paper, then bought a couple rawing pads and better pens. He has used colored pencils and dabbled a bit with watercolors. However, he has stuck with his favorite, black ink on artist paper. We have all been amazed at yet another mirale that God has performed in Randy’s life. How else do you explain the ability to start drawing from pictures he “sees” in his mind, when he wasn’t even aware of his talent till recent years!
