Rigmarole
RIGMAROLE is a great big band playing funk, rock, jazz, New Orleans style jazz, and much more. They play originals and covers, though the covers usually come with the musicians’ own flavor.
Band members knew each other in college as they progressed through the music education and performance department at CSU, Chico. Their friendships were maintained after college and, as they have gravitated closer and closer to Chico, decided to start playing music together again. “It is such a great pleasure of ours to practice and play what we preach to our students,” says Tanner Johns. “Playing music is a totally different outlet than directing and rehearsing with kids.”
The members of Rigmarole (as they appear in the photo from left to right) are:
Joe West, playing Trombone and Sousaphone, teaches band in Willows for both the Intermediate and High Schools.
Bill Hepworth on Electric Guitar and Banjo, teaches guitar privately through the Guitar Center in Chico and is a frequent substitute teacher for the music teachers in the area.
Austin King on Drums, teaches band in Gridley to grades 5-12 and will soon be moving to Chico Unified School District.
Ayako Nakamura playing Trumpet, is an adjunct professor of music at CSU, Chico and teaches trumpet, both for the university and privately and is a member of the North State Symphony.
Seth Snyder {on top of the slide} brings high powered Vocals and Auxiliary Percussion. He teaches K-8 music and band in Red Bluff.
Ryan Heimlich on Electric Bass, teaches band and choir at PV High School in Chico as well as clarinet at CSU, Chico and is a member of the North State Symphony.
Casson Scowcroft plays Trombone and teaches band at Red Bluff High School.
And last but not least is our own Quincy home-grown Tanner Johns (Tenor Saxophone) who teaches band and choir at Bidwell and Marsh Jr. High Schools in Chico.
