Mary Jane Bagshaw, a California native, graduated from Fresno State with degrees in Fine Art and Education. Her love of the outdoors came from the many visits to her grandparents ranch in Sierra Valley (The M. Guidici Ranch near Chilcoot.) Her love of the outdoors has taken her traveling and hiking through the back country of the Western United States and has taught her to appreciate and connect with the changing patterns and color in the land.
Many of her landscapes are place rich with fond memories. Her painting media of choice are oils and pastels. Oils, applied with a palette knife, provide pure colors and feels direct, much like sculpting. Pastels give both and intensity of color and a softness inherent to the medium. Her work is frequently displayed in juried shows such as The mustard Festival in Napa and salute to the Arts in Sonoma.
