Chris Mehne
In the early 1970’s after returning from Vietnam, where he served as an Army Medical Corpsman, Chris began his creative pursuits in a therapeutic capacity. During his travels, unable to pack around a hoard of painting supplies, he began his journey with embroidery. Recovering from a silent heart attack in February, 2015, he had a realization that it was time to reignite the art within. Returning to his beloved Plumas County in September, he began, what is to date, a 64 month odyssey in hand embroidered works of art, calling this effort of needlework, Every Stitch Matters. The original designs and images are drawn from a host of sources and ideas. The larger pieces (14” to 18” hoops) can take up to 200 to 240 hours to complete, requiring great patience and a tremendous amount of needle threading! Smaller, more detailed works and patches require splitting the six strand floss down sometimes to a single strand to achieve detail.
