For this evening of Words & Music Plumas Arts invites Ken Cawley, probably one of the most sought after sidemen in the region, to step out front. He promises an all Dobro (resonator steel guitar) show, a few solo numbers and, for a change, he will call upon some of his musical friends to play along side of him.
"Ken is a man of few words about his music," comments Roxanne Valladao, Director of Plumas Arts, "but he is all heart and one of our area's most talented musicians." That is really saying something considering how many talented musicians call these mountains home. Come along for a great evening of local music shared with good friends and neighbors.
Words & Music is also a place for musicians and writers to share their talents with a very receptive crowd. Open stage (it is often called open mike, but there are no microphones used at the venue) will follow the featured set. Any aspiring poets, musicians, storytellers, actors or performers are encouraged to sign up at the door for a 5 to 7 minute time slot. All music performances must be acoustic only, with no electrical instruments or sound equipment allowed. Original work is always encouraged.
Words and Music is an acoustic music and spoken word program which has been sponsored and facilitated by Plumas Arts since 1989.
Plumas Arts is designated annually by the Plumas County Board of Supervisors to serve as the local representative to the California Arts Council's State-Local Partnership Program. Incorporated in 1981 as a 501c3 not for profit agency, Plumas Arts provides our region with a variety of cultural and educational programs that enhance both the soul of the creative arts and the local economy.
