HANK ALRICH PERFORMS AT
WORDS & MUSIC

The next Quincy Words & Music on Thursday, November 13th provides an opportunity for featured musician Hank Alrich to catch up with the folks back at home.

Doors open at 7:00 pm and no host coffees, teas and libations will be available.

The featured artist portion begins at 7:15. Admission is still only $3.00.

Hank Alrich is a multi-instrumentalist, composer-singer, and producer of live and recorded music.

He moved from Texas to Plumas County in 1985, and has since played with a variety of local bands,

including Snake Oil, Porch Swing, Jammin' Jelly Rollers, Secret Mountain Rangers, Town Hawks, Halfgrass, Now & Then, Summertime, Dr. Tom's Alchemy, and Blarney's Ghost. He began his professional performing career in the summer of 1962, between his junior and senior years in high school, when he secured a job as the house folksinger at a Lake Tahoe coffeehouse. Six sets a night, seven nights a week for over eleven weeks provided a somewhat strenuous but apt introduction to the live music business. Of that experience he observes, "I can't remember the name of the coffeehouse, but I'll never forget how little sleep I got that summer."

Hank has spent most of this year performing and producing in Austin, Texas, especially enjoying a duo with his daughter, Shaidri. He will return to Austin in December for a series of shows with Shaidri, and for production work with the Threadgill's venues and the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar.

For this Words & Music Hank will perform solo, in the interest of efficiency in art. "I'd like to share as many songs as possible; I think that'll be the most fun way to approach this engagement. While I still play actively with Now & Then and with Snake Oil, folks hereabouts have ample opportunity to hear me in those contexts. This time I'll just show up with lots of songs."

Hank has very eclectic musical taste, and his solo performances offer material in various musical styles, including blues, folk, country, swing, pop, and rock. He will showcase original material in several of those genres. He will also offer songs he is recording for release, a series of Badger Clark's cowboy poetry set to music to be titled "Songs of Sun and Saddle Leather".

Words & Music is also a place for musicians and writers to share their talents with a very receptive crowd. Open stage (it is often called open mike, but there are no microphones used at the venue) will follow the featured set. Any aspiring poets, musicians, storytellers, actors or performers are encouraged to sign up at the door for a 5 to 7 minute time slot. All music performances must be acoustic only, with no electrical instruments or sound equipment allowed. Original work is always encouraged.

Words and Music is an acoustic music and spoken word program which has been sponsored and facilitated by Plumas Arts since 1989.

Plumas Arts is designated annually by the Plumas County Board of Supervisors to serve as the local representative to the California Arts Council’s State-Local Partnership Program. Incorporated in 1981 as a 501c3 not for profit agency, Plumas Arts provides our region with a variety of cultural and educational programs that enhance both the soul of the creative arts and the local economy.
