A Few Brews & A Banjo

Saturday, June 21 2008

2-6pm at CHESTER PARK

Picture a sunny summer afternoon spent sitting among friends alongside the north fork of the Feather River under cottonwood trees, sipping on a tasty microbrewed beer with a tri-tip sandwich, watching children dance and play, and enjoying traditional bluegrass music and harmonies. There are two bluegrass bands including one family band with children performing and one group which blend gospel themes with traditional bluegrass picking. Now imagine that you're helping to raise money that will be donated to the local high school music and drama programs.

You're at the Third Annual "A Few Brews and A Banjo"

From 2pm to 6pm, the public can enjoy live music and
sample fine microbrews.

Tickets for brew-glasses and wristbands will cost $20 and will be available at the park on the day of the event to those
21 years old and up.

Food and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided by the
Elks Club of Chester.

All of the beer has been donated by a number of microbreweries.
They include Great Basin Brewing of Reno, Butte Creek Brewing of Chico (specializing in organic brews), Anchor Brewing of San Francisco, Lost Coast Brewery of Eureka, the Sacramento Brewing Company, Sierra Nevada Brewing of Chico, New Belgium Brewing of Fort Collins, CO, and Stone Brewing Company of San Diego.

The live music is free to the public.

Two bands will sweeten the air with bluegrass melodies sure to appeal to all ages.

Anderson Family Bluegrass Band from Grass Valley

Mom (Christy) plays standup bass, and dad (Mark) plays banjo. Singing most of the lead and flat-picking her guitar is Paige (13), with Aimee (11) on fiddle and Ethan (9) on mandolin singing harmony and occasional lead. Even Daisy (7) saws away at her little fiddle and is now providing a 4th harmony part in some of the band's songs. In the spirit of this all-ages event, this family exemplifies the adage, “the family that plays together stays together.” The Anderson Family songs are based on traditional bluegrass and old-time music in the styles of The Stanley Brothers, The Carter Family, Hazel Dickens, Flatt and Scruggs and many others.Check out www.andersonfamilybluegrass.com

The Mossy Creek Band a rocking bluegrass band.

They move gracefully between Bill Monroe-style bluegrass with its three-part vocal harmonies and polyrhythmic back-beat to the classic bluegrass gospel tradition reminiscent of the Sunday morning sets common to many bluegrass festivals. They are spectacular!

Sponsored by the Lake Almanor Community Foundation in partnership with Plumas Arts.

Event proceeds will benefit the Chester High School Music & Drama programs in an unsolicited donation.

Last year this event provided them with almost half the amount of their annual budget!
